Youth Empowerment in Climate Action Platform - YECAP

The Youth Empowerment in Climate Action Platform (YECAP) was established by UNDP in Asia and the Pacific in collaboration with UNFCCC, RCC Asia and the Pacific, UNICEF East Asia and the Pacific, UNICEF South Asia, the British Council, YOUNGO, Movers Programme, and 2030 Youth Force in response to young people across the region calling for urgent action on the climate agenda. Youth in all their diverse identities and experiences advance their climate journeys with the support from YECAP to meaningfully engage in action, advocacy, and acceleration of the movement towards a just climate future.

Viet Nam Youth4Climate

Viet Nam Youth4Climate Initiative was launched in 2020 by the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment and UNDP Viet Nam. This initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of existing youth representatives and networks to advance climate actions at national and international forums through consistent and coordinated efforts and enhanced collaboration with the Government, UN agencies, development partners, private sector, CSOs, and social media, in future climate initiatives and policies in Viet Nam.

Climate Learning Hub

Youth4Climate Learning Hub was built by youth with support from UNDP Viet Nam. The goal of the Learning Hub is to improve young people’s capacity and knowledge about climate change through a multi-dimensional, youth-friendly knowledge exchange channel.

Youth Policy Working Group

The Youth4Climate Policy Working Group is a youth-led project established based on the Special Report on Youth for Climate Action 2021 and 2022 following discussions and recommendations of young people in the process of writing reports. This project is also a continuation of youth-led initiatives by youth networks and organizations such as YNet, VYCO, Youth4Climate TOT on Just Energy Transition, who have actively participated in the discussion for the Youth4Climate Policy Working Group in Viet Nam. As part of the Youth4Climate Initiative, UNDP Viet Nam, the Department of Climate Change (DCC-MONRE) and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) will support the construction and operation of this project.

YNet Viet Nam

Youth Climate Action Network (YNet Viet Nam) was established after the National Writeshop organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment and the United Nations Development Programme in Viet Nam in December 2020. The network was formed and developed to improve capacity, connecting movements and youth initiatives in the field of environment and climate with nearly 20 member organizations and more than 100 volunteers nationwide.

Who created the Youth4Climate Learning Hub?

The Youth4Climate Learning Hub was developed within the framework of Youth4Climate initiative of UNDP Viet Nam. The Hub development team consists of young people from various regions in Viet Nam with diverse backgrounds, jointly developing knowledge modules with the support and peer review of science and policy experts. The names of the building team members responsible for each topic are listed on the topic introduction page. During the development of the Learning Hub, the team also consulted more than 500 youth aged 15-35 years old through surveys and virtual meet-ups.

Where do the modules collect information from?

References for each knowledge module are listed at the end of the post.

For scientific information, the curation team relied on reports from (1) the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), (2) the Intergovernmental Commission on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), (3) official reports from reputable international scientific and development organizations, (4) peer-reviewed scientific papers published in high-impact journals.

For policy information, the development team gets information from (1) relevant legal and poloicy documents, (2) information on official websites of ministries and government agencies.

What do I receive upon completing a module?

Upon completion of a knowledge module, you will receive:

– Access to more complex content in subsequent modules

– Bragging rights 

– Certificate from UNDP after completing a full theme (2-4 modules, depending on theme)

Within the framework of the five main themes of the Learning Hub (Climate Science; Ecosystems & Land Use; Energy; Industrial Processes, Materials & Waste; Climate Policy), new content is still being developed to provide more diverse and in-depth knowledge to users.
